Collecting the New Car

There is an ongoing discussion about whether the car is called Kermit or Mike Wzowski, we generally prefer Mike Wzowski, but sometimes it is confusing having to Mike's in the team!

The MAD-Racing car is based agent silver striker chassis with a 90,000 mile Escort GTi engine slapped in the front. Bits of the car have been racing for over a decade, but we like to think that all the important bits are a little bit newer than that! The car weighs about 550 kg and puts out around 172 brake horsepower making it about 70% more powerful than the Des and Al Racing Locost. It runs on Yokohama, A048R semi slick tyres under cheese lap times. Between five and 10 seconds a lap quicker than the old Locost.

Meet the Team - Uncle Mike

Although not strictly an uncle, Uncle Mike's (the tall one) role is to provide common sense and quality control to all aspects of the MAD-Racing team. Uncle Mike is a chartered engineer and has spent the last two years competing in the Locost Championship. Top achievements include front row grid slots at Cadwell Park. He was also instrumental in the creation of the four times, championship winning Larry the Locost is previously owned by Des and Al Racing.

Most likely to say: “ I find the excessive rear compliance combined with the tow out on Jounce at the front giving the impression of understeer, even though I'm sure the front axle lateral capacity has not been breached, providing me with a lack of turn in as I head into Redgate”

Meet the Team - Des

Nobody seems too sure what Des's (the medium one) role in the team is. He doesn't seem to drive very much, and is rarely seen with a spanner in his hand, but is generally present and seems enthusiastic. He looks more comfortable at one of those newfangled computers than either Mike or Al, and hence writes the website. Notable achievements include race victories at Cadwell, Oulton Park and Snetterton in Larry the Locost.

Most likely to say: “I think what Mike means, is he would like some more damping at the front”

Meet the Team - Big Al

Big Al (the short one) is in charge of making lists. He is also the team's chief do-er. These two things work together quite nicely - Al works out and what's wrong with the car and fixes it! Rarely seen, not doing something. Notable achievements include race victories at Pembrey, Brands Hatch and Silverstone.

Most likely to say: “ I've got no idea what Mike is on about how about we rebuild the entire engine, then re-weld the chassis, whip the suspension off, and bung it back together before the next race.”

Meet the Team - Suzie Sue

Uncle Mike's wife and chief cheerleader. Incredibly enthusiastic about racing for a girl, and quite a nifty driver in her own right too! Occasionally seen driving the race car.

Most like to say: “ 2, 4, 6, 8, MAD-Racing are great – now when do I get to drive?”

Meet The Team - Mel

Des's wife and sole member of the Des Fanclub. It's best described as tolerant of racing. However can be made to enjoy weekends at race tracks, provided there is lots of sunshine, and preferably a white sandy beach. Does not like Snetterton due to the wind.

Most like to say: “What does that bit do?”

Meet the Team - Jo

Big Al's wife and mother of the youngest team member-Oliver. Also prefers sunny racetracks but given the choice would rather go to a nice spa at the weekend.

Most likely to say: “ Bend your knees when you pick a spanner up

Meet The Team - Oliver

MAD-Racing's youngest member. Fully expected to be quicker than Hamilton, in a couple of years.

Most likely to say: “Ma-Ma” or perhaps “Da-Da”.
